Dr. Joi Lewis is the Dean of Student Life and Vice Provost at Mills College. As a scholar-practitioner, Lewis teaches a graduate course titled “Higher Education, Hip Hop and the Hood, Getting Students to and through College in a Transforming Academy” at Mills College. Her scholarship focuses on narrative research as liberatory praxis, re-authoring lived experiences in urban cities and schools and interrupting sexism and body image as text.
Lewis was a guest speaker on a panel discussion at the conference “Weaving through Change: Identifying Intersections between Education, Health, and Economics” on Nov 19, 2010 at Laney College in Oakland.
