Mills holds meeting to discuss Tang records breach

An open meeting was held on Monday, May 11 to discuss a security breach of the UC Berkeley Tang Center, in which hackers accessed the electronic records database that held personal information for tens of thousands of UC Berkeley and Mills students.

The meeting was held to inform the Mills community of how the information was compromised, and to answer questions regarding the degree to which Mills students are affected and what can be done to protect them from identity theft.

Economy a major factor for domestic violence

Some experts say the weakened economic situation may help increase domestic violence in the U.S., making violence both more likely to occur and leaving it harder for the abused partner to leave.

In January, the National Domestic Violence Hotline released information from a study that suggested a connection between economic struggle and domestic violence.

College to switch health care provider

Mills has signed a contract with Kaiser Permanente to provide healthcare coverage and on-campus care for students via a new health facility, President Janet Holmgren announced in a memo on Wednesday.

The decision comes in response to student "desire for an on-site medical facility, as many students have experienced challenges accessing health care that is not conveniently located," according to the president's memo.

Mills has recently created a member-driven networking organization that will help support members of the Mills community as they explore the job market.

The Mills College Professionals Network (MCPN) is designed to give current students, faculty and alumnae a chance to meet with professionals in their field of interest.

Possibility of bus passes next semester to be decided by student vote

At a Town Hall Meeting held on Wednesday, ASMC representatives said that students, after registering for classes, will be able to vote for, or against, Mills getting bus passes next fall.

Students can vote by clicking on a link after completing online registration, according to Assistant Dean of Student Services Toni Blackwell.
