Progess continues on new home for graduate business school

The hulking form of the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business is still taking shape on Orchard Meadow, and construction will continue all semester.

The building is slated for completion in July 2009, a month later than originally predicted. It will be available to students for use in the fall.

Student group plans visit to presidential inauguration

A group of Mills College women hope to be in Washington D.C. on Jan. 20 2009, when Barack Obama is sworn in as President of the United States.

A group of approximately 15 women have gathered together in an Inaugural Committee to fundraise, find housing and get event tickets for the Inauguration, whose theme is "A New Birth of Freedom.

Long time Mills employee fired

Charlene Davis, Founders Commons manager and employee of Mills College for 26 years was recently fired by Bon Appetit, the new campus food vendor.

She is one of many people who have either been laid off or quit this school year.

Davis, who began her employment with Mills in 1981, was "involuntarily terminated" due to "violation of the company's Hostile Work Environment Policy," according to an April 22 memo.

Public Safety creates banned list

In the 2007-2008 school year, Mills College's Department of Public Safety has increased access to their list of individuals who are banned from campus. Now, students can access pictures and descriptions of most banned individuals through the Mills Web site.

Finals should not be scheduled on Saturdays-violates Jewish principles

Everyone knows that Mills strives to be a place where equality, diversity and the enjoyment of variety are taken seriously. So it pains me when Mills makes a blatant oversight that could negatively, and embarrassingly, affect students.

Mills must know that it has a Jewish student population; students have a yearly Seder at the chapel and a Jewish Student Union was tentatively formed.
