VIDEO | Pan-African jazz at the Black Dot Cafe

A release party for musician and composer Mahealani Uchiyama’s new CD “Ndoro Dze Madzina” was held at the Black Dot Cafe in West Oakland on Friday, Sept. 24. Uchiyama composed Pan-African jazz music playing the ‘mbira’ instrument. The performance and workshop were a part of the Sankofa Cultural Institute’s ‘Naked Jazz Series,’ a program showcasing artists of African Diasporic cultural expression.
