Over the weekend, rapper Travis Scott gave hip-hop enthusiasts and Fortnite gamers an out-of-this-world experience with a virtual music tour.
Last Thursday evening, Fortnite’s 3D game space hosted a live three-day “Astronomical” event, where the Houston rapper debuted his new single “THE SCOTTS” featuring Kid Cudi.
The duo has since named themselves “THE SCOTTS” and has racked in over 7.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The self-titled song has also debuted at #1 for the most-streamed male artist on the platform. The track for “THE SCOTTS” was produced by Daytrip, Dot Da Genius, Plain Pat, and co-produced by Mike Dean and Travis Scott.
News of Kid Cudi and Travis Scott’s friendly partnership comes as no surprise as Travis Scott featured Kid Cudi on his “Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight” album in 2016. Travis Scott even explained his admiration for Kid Cudi on the Jimmy Fallon show. Scott explained how he used Cudi’s government name (Scott Mescudi) as a part of his stage name. Still, their single was a first for their newly collaborated project, “THE SCOTTS.”
As part of the song and project’s premiere, fans made sure to log on to the Fortnite game space for the three day “Astronomical” event (April 23).

Cloudless blue skies and green landscapes transformed into a red doomsday scene, as the monster-sized “La Flame” artist entered the game. Fortnite gamers roamed about the battlefield with Travis Scott avatars (skins) while watching the colossal Travis Scott perform his new single. Scott also performed his hits “Sicko Mode,” “Goosebumps” and “Butterfly Effect.”
Fortnite urged gamers to log onto the website 30 minutes early to secure a spot at the worldwide virtual event. Gamers were also encouraged to complete the “Astronomical Challenges.” This would allow players to unlock free gear for their constantly changing avatars.
Epic Games, the game developer company that created Fortnite, told Daily Mail that the Astronomical event set “an all-time high record” for the popular game. The live performance attracted 12.3 million users simultaneously, which surpassed the previous record for Marshmello’s virtual concert.
