Professor’s murder novel is nominated for teen book list

Professor Kathryn Reiss’ novel Blackthorn Winter has been nominated for the Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YALSA) Teens’ Top Ten, a list of selections used in classroom curricula.

“I am especially pleased because the YALSA nominations mean that many, many kids and teens across the country will be reading my book,” Reiss said. “This particular listing is a teen-generated listing rather than one listing books chosen by teachers or librarians. I’m delighted, too, that Blackthorn Winter is on the same list with the latest Harry Potter novel.”

Murder by the English seaside is the subject of Winter, Reiss’ first murder mystery.

Reiss is no stranger to literary success. Her other accomplishments include such award-winning books as Time Windows, Pale Phoenix, The Glass House People, Paint by Magic, and Paperquake.

Her second murder mystery, featuring the same setting and heroine, is set to reach bookstores in 2007.
