The WonderCon, billed as "the first major comics convention of the year," is at the Moscone Center (747 Howard St., SF) Feb. 10, 11 and 12. Visit www.wondercon.com for times & prices.

Students are eligible for $16 tickets to see a new play, a tribute to spoken word, called "from okra to greens/a different kind of love story." Written by Ntozake Shange, the play runs through Feb. 19 at the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre (620 Sutter St., SF). The theatre is accessible by BART. Get off at Powell station and walk West on Powell, turn left on Sutter.

Women playwrights are encouraged to submit their plays to the EXIT Theatre for the spring 2007 DIVAfest. A $500 award is offered. Submissions are due by e-mail no later than Feb. 28 and should include a brief outline of the proposed project and a brief outline of previous work. Visit www.theexit.org for more information.

It's not too late to catch some of the great films being shown as part of the San Francisco Independent Film Festival. The festival wraps up on Feb. 14. For details, visit www.sfindie.com.

Looking for a cheap movie theater experience? UC Berkeley hosts the Superb Friday Film Series. Tickets are $5 and the films are shown at the Wheeler Auditorium on the UC Berkeley campus every Friday night. Check www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~superb/films for listings. Take the Mills shuttle to Sproul. Also, Wednesday is two-for-the-price-of-one at the Parkway Speakeasy Theater (1834 Park Blvd., Oak.). Tickets are $5, visit www.picturepubpizza.com for details.
