Senior MFA dance students will showcase over a semester's worth of work onstage this weekend at a concert in Lisser Hall. The three MFA Thesis Dance Concerts feature up to nine original performances, all choreographed by MFA students.
The performances are part of the thesis requirements for seniors, said dance professor Anne Westwick. Seniors also write a thesis giving a context for their performances. "There were no parameters other than they knew that [the performances] would be presented onstage," she said.
Westwick said that this year's concert is different from past years because of the variety of performances.
"This year's performances are really varied," Westwick said. "They incorporate theatrical pieces, video, props, live music, fabulous and fantastic costumes, just an exciting range of dance as well as a wide range of sound accompaniment," she said.
Nine seniors – Julie Binkley, Mary LaBianca, Casandra E. Owen, lolo a. katie, Sonsheree Giles, Akweta Colbert, Margaret Cromwell, Holly Furgason and Pongsan Sanguansat – worked as choreographers and incorporated other dancers from the department to perform.
Performances are March 9, 10 and 11 in Lisser Hall from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Entrance is free for Mills students, $10 for adults and $8 for non-Mills students.
