Being out in the hot sun can leave your body exhausted and dehydrated. After a long week, I always feel like I need to detox. Even if I haven’t been eating or drinking anything that unhealthy, my body just needs to be recharged. I came up with this smoothie recipe as a way to help to give me a much-needed energy boost, and it definitely did the trick!
INGREDIENTS
1 cup blueberries
About 5 strawberries
1/2 cup superfruit
3/4 cup coconut water
1/4 cup pomegranate juice
1 tsp coconut oil
1/2 cup ice
Add all ingredients to a blender. Then blend until smooth and serve!
I picked out blueberries for their wonderful antioxidant qualities and strawberries simply because they are my favorite! I also added in some superfruit — which is a mix of acai and pomegranate with a pear flavor. I had never had it before but it is incredibly rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. Instead of water, I used coconut water and a splash of pomegranate juice.
The secret ingredient in this smoothie is the coconut oil! I’ve been told by multiple people about the benefits of eating a spoonful of coconut oil a day. The list goes on and on: it helps build up your body’s resistance to viruses and bacteria; increases metabolism, energy and endurance; helps restore normal thyroid function; and reduces cholesterol. It is also incredibly hydrating for your skin, hair and nails! All things aside, the superfruit also gives this smoothie a delicious tropical flavor.
Chug up!
