Jules Cooch, freshwoman, Mills CC
When Jules Cooch decided to come out for cross country as a first-year student at Mills, she decided to do it right from the beginning. Although her only sports background was playing Ultimate Frisbee, she trained for cross country all summer long, something that is expected of veteran runners, but rarely done by athletes new to the team. The work has paid off; Jules finished third for the team at the Beaver Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 6, and has continued to be one of the team’s top runners throughout the season.
“Jules has been a welcome surprise this season,” said Head Cross Country Coach Laura Davis. “She works hard, has a great attitude, and is one of the toughest people on the team.”
Jules joins the team in a season when the cross country Cyclones are looking better than they have in many years. The team is ranked second in the Cal Pac conference, a vast improvement from their sixth place finish a year ago.
