Sophomore Kate Smith is this week’s Cyclone of the Week. Smith is an overall leader and is constantly rallying her team. In last week’s matches against UC Santa Cruz this was particularly true. Although her training and much of her experience is in the defensive specialist position, Smith has played as a setter this season. Despite it not being her primary position, she has thrived in the role and is a strong presence on the court. She is a consistent all-around player, has great volleyball instincts, and brings a competitive fire to the team.
Cindy Nguyen-Pham, Cross Country
This week’s other Cyclone of the Week honors go to senior runner Cindy Nguyen-Pham. Nguyen-Pham is in her third season with the cross country team and has had her most successful season this fall. At last week’s Davis Invitational she ran a personal best in the 6k with a time of 29:47, taking more than two minutes off her first 6k of the season. Nguyen-Pham has run in all of the team’s five races this season and has improved in each race. Nguyen-Pham’s time at the Davis Invitational broke her previous personal best at the Bronco Invitational just a few weeks before.
This past weekend she took on the NCAA Regionals in Salem, Oregon. Congratulations!
