Professor Julia Sudbury: She really encourages us to not only learn the theories, but gives us opportunities to put them into practice through SL. The issues that she teaches are also relevant to contemporary issues in our society today.

Sustainability Center opens for Earth Day

Mills students ride for AIDS cause

While many Mills students will begin their summer vacations by relaxing and blowing off post-finals steam, a few women will be using the extra time to push their minds and bodies even harder. Five students are preparing themselves for the ride of a lifetime, which will not only test their strength, stamina and determination, but will raise needed funds for AIDS services as well.

College shuts the door on open-door policy

Faculty and staff in Mills Hall must now work behind closed doors at all times, in compliance with the building's fire code regulations.

An April 2 memo sent to the Mills community by the Office of the Provost stated that "Open doors constitute a fire hazard, and allow a fire to spread more quickly due to more oxygen that can fuel a fire.

Mills yoga teacher to help Katrina survivors at V-Day’s “Superlove”

For 16 years, yoga instructor Jeanne Dowell has uttered the same words to her Mills students at the end of every class as they rouse themselves from relaxation: "Honor that great spirit within yourself, and that same great spirit in others."

Dowell now has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share those words with an even bigger audience.

Natural Science Building named

Students will now attend science classes in the newly christened Betty Irene Moore Natural Sciences Building, thanks to a multi-million dollar pledge by the Gordon and Betty Moore foundation.

According to Virginia Rivera, vice president for Institutional Advancement, the Moores donated $4 million to cover construction costs of the building because they wanted to name it.

ASMC to revise board positions

In an effort to better represent and serve students, members of Mills' student government said that they are preparing a number of structural changes that they hope will take effect by the Spring 2008 ASMC elections.

The Associated Students of Mills College currently comprises a large executive board and a legislative congress.
