Renowned opera composer John Adams spoke to a packed audience in Mills College's ensemble room on Dec. 2.
The event was hosted by Music professor Nalini Ghuman, as part of her course "The World of Opera."
His talk was accessible to those who had no background knowledge of opera or its history, and drew numerous laughs from the audience.
At 6 p.m. on Nov. 4, Mills students began filling the Student Union to await the election results. In a historical Presidential race that mobilized a record number of young people, the room buzzed with excitement and anticipation.

The group believes the debate should be reopened because the 21-year-old age limit on consuming alcohol isn't working.
The Institute for Civic Leadership was reinstated for the upcoming school year, after the program was abruptly canceled last April due to lack of funding.
Changes in store for this year include decreasing the number of classes from three to two, reducing the program's budget, and finding more ways to involve the Mills community beyond the students enrolled in the program, according to Civic Leadership Coordinator Michaela Daystar.
Mills College officials announced the cancellation of the Institute for Civic Leadership (ICL) one week after program administrators admitted a new class of students for the 2008-2009 school year.
ICL began in 2001 as a primarily grant-funded program that led a small group of students in civic education work each year, giving them a mentor and placing them in community internships.
