On Feb. 5, Track & Field began their season at the Cal All Comers Track and Field meet in Berkeley. Amongst many impressive first races, Brenda Gonzalez impressed coaches with her determination and preparation.

Brenda, a freshwoman PLEA major from Las Vegas, NV, was a great example to the team: just as discussed in practices earlier in the week, 40 minutes before her event, Brenda made her way down to the athlete preparation area without instruction to begin her warm-up routine, drills and stretches.

When it was time for the 400 meter race, she was physically prepared and mentally focused.

Head coach Laché Bailey and assistant coach Bobby Pope watched her race, amazed at how hard she pushed through the pain in the final stretch and made quick adjustments to her technique when coached from the side lines. In a time of 78.81 seconds, Brenda won her open heat of the 400 meter dash!
