Cold weather is starting to hit the East Bay, and for me, the first thing I always think when this happens is: WHAT ABOUT MY HAIR? For a curly girl, my hair always becomes more dry and brittle because of harsh elements (air, rain, etc.). To top it off, I have to fight against split ends and protect my hair with braids and buns, hats, the works.
In addition, cold weather does not just affect the curls, but also affects wavy and straight hair alike. With the cold and wind, hair becomes dry and frizzy, creating potential damage to strands.
Because of this, I feel that there is absolutely one thing that will better one’s hair during the winter: deep conditioning. Deep conditioners add a boost to strengthen your hair, especially during this season. I am going to tell you some of my favorite deep conditioners that could help during these cold days:
- Shea Moisture Yucca and Plantain Anti-Breakage Strengthening Masque
- Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow and Restore Treatment Masque
- Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioner
- Aubrey Organics GPB Balancing Protein Conditioner
And alas, I have one true blue favorite that has helped me for the past few years: my avocado & banana deep conditioner. I’ve been making this for the past five years, and it has been successful in giving me softness and protection during cold weather. For this you will need:
- Two avocados
- Half of a banana
- Coconut milk
- Jamaican black castor oil
- Coconut oil
- Grapeseed oil
