Prospective Student Expresses Frustration with Mills

Dear Editor,I am sending you the following information in an effort to open a discussion on how Mills is currently being viewed by potential students. As a long time Bay Area resident and once potential Mills student I find myself fairly disappointed with the current situation at Mills. Last year I inquired about transferring to Mills from a local community college. Initially my inquiry was to ensure that I was adequately preparing myself for transfer to Mills. After all, I have lived in the Bay Area for roughly 12 years and had dreamed for many years (as many women do) of the day that I would have both the financial resources and time to attend an institution as fine as Mills. Recently I have been blessed with both. So to best prepare myself I decided to attend a community college for a couple of semesters to get back into the swing of school, and prove myself to be a serious student to the admissions board. Additionally I felt it would be in my best interest, for many reasons, to stay abreast of the current climate at the school.Needless to say I was quite shocked at many of the things I was seeing and hearing about the direction that the President and Board of Trustees have chosen for school. After receiving an invitation to apply I sent an e-mail (which details my thoughts on the situation at the school) with a read notification so I would know if anyone indeed read it (sadly it seems they did not). After asking to be removed from the mailing list I received a second e-mail encouraging my transfer. I think the experience I am having very clearly demonstrates the problem with the situation at Mills. This makes me feel quite sad for both the Bay Area and Mills. I do hope you find this information worth printing, and more importantly I hope that it opens the eyes of those at the helm and motivates the actions needed to save a wonderful liberal arts intuition.Thank you for your time.Sincerely,Adina D.
