Sending my heartfelt thanks to Weekly staffers Laura K. Cucullu and Glodean Champion for the well-wrought story on my journey as the author of Alice Walker: A Life. The package was truly impressive.
Should there by any confusion, I'd like to clarify that it was during a speech at an East coast college-not at Mills-that Ms. Walker was confronted by an official dismayed by her pointed (and to the point) discussion of female genital mutilation.
