Art museum’s back door

Mills College Weekly

The current back entrance to the Mills College Art Museum used to be the front door. The old Mills trolly, which followed the path of the Pine Top Trail around the school, dropped off students here.

This entrance faded from use when the trolly was removed. After that time, the current entrance became the primary one.

The trolly also stopped at the outside fireplace where students used to hold bonfires and picnics throughout the year. Its remains can still be found at the top of the hill, above Founder’s Common.

Old copies of the student handbook indicate that this was a common hang-out place for the freshwomen.
