Zachary’s Pizza a good, cheap eat

A Bay Area favorite, Zachary’s Chicago Pizza offers you a pie
well worth the dough. In the evening, with the phones lines busy
and the dining room even busier, the staff at Zachary’s works magic
amidst the chaos, and delivers a great pizza.

Zachary’s stellar reputation for Chicago-style stuffed pizza is
well-deserved. Their ‘Pride & Joy’ spinach and mushroom pizza,
only available stuffed, blends layers of cheese, spinach,
mushrooms, and spices between two crusts, all topped with seasoned,
chunky tomato sauce. This is a pizza to share with your friends-a
little expensive if you’re buying for one, but with a couple
others, it’s about $5 each.

They also offer four other combination specials regularly
available stuffed or thin; another vegetarian offering in the
Mediterranean pizza, and three for the carnivores: Zachary’s
Special, Good Health pizza, and a chicken pizza, as well as various
daily specials and salads. Visit their Web site for a complete
menu.

Large slices are available until 4:00 p.m., thin style only,
cheese-$2.50, sausage or pepperoni-$2.75; worth the stop if you’re
nearby around lunch. If you want to dine in, be prepared for a
unique experience-you will order your pizza and then wait for your
table. When your pizza is ready, you will be seated. The staff has
an uncanny knack for timing or great planning; my pizza has always
arrived piping hot.

Zachary’s is proof that a great product allows for a simple
business plan: pizza and salad only, no delivery, cash only (ATM
inside or at Albertson’s across the street) and an unusual seating
arrangement-and the customers continue to arrive in droves.

If you want to pick it up, you can call ahead and order
(including a half-baked option if you have an oven at home) but
again, be prepared for a busy phone line if you’re calling at
night. They will take orders in advance in the morning.
