The Resumer Toast, a fundraiser fr the Mary Atkins Lounge, was a huge success as both a fun-raiser and an evening for women over 21 to try some new wines, attendees said..
The Nov. 15 event drew in approximately 50 people. An estimated $170 was raised which will be used “for other Mary Atkins events which are all designed to enhance a sense of community among resuming women at Mills,” said senior Julie Trinder, a member of the lounge and one of the event planners.
Denise Smith, a graduating senior and member of the Mary Atkins Lounge, and husband Scott Smith, who works at Robert Mondavi Wineries, suggested the wine tasting as an event and supplied a variety of white wines for the evening.
“Mills has been good to me and I wanted to give something back to the Mills community,” said Denise Smith. “It was a chance for students to learn about some wines while tasting.”
Smith said her husband took the afternoon off from work to come to the college and pour wine for the women who attended. “He really enjoyed it, he had a good time,” said Smith of her husband.
“The Mary Atkins board was very pleased with everything about the outcome of the event from the money we raised to the good time had by those that attended,” said Trinder.
