Typhoon relief efforts for the Philippines: how the Mills community can contribute

In the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, the super typhoon that devastated the Philippines on Nov. 8 and killed upwards of 4,460 people, the Mills administration is reaching out to students with resources for monetary donations to relief funds, and to find counseling if needed.

In a memorandum emailed to the college community, Dean of Students Eloise Stiglitz encouraged people to be there for one another and reach out to those who have friends or family who have been affected by the storm. Students in need of counseling are encouraged to go to Counseling Psychological Services in the Cowell building or schedule an appointment by calling 510-430-2130.

Mills College Asian Pacific Islander Student Alliance (APISA) will be tabling on Adams Plaza this week to collect relief donations and provide resources for students who would like to know more about Typhoon Haiyan. APISA will also be collaborating with Office of Student Activities, Spiritual and Religious Life and the Diversity and Social Justice Resource Center to host a candlelight vigil in Adam’s Plaza on the evening of Thursday Nov. 21. For queries about participating at the vigil or helping out with tabling, please contact APISA Co-President Jennifer Thao at jthao@mills.edu.

As the most-needed form of relief at the moment is monetary, Dean Stiglitz and Director of Spiritual and Religious Life Laura Engelken have suggested the following relief funds that are currently on the ground in the Philippines assisting with relief efforts:
