Laura Engelken has been named as Mills College’s new Director of Spiritual and Religious Life on Jan 19.
Engelken, a member of the United Church of Christ, said she is cognizant and sensitive to the importance of spiritual and religious diversity at Mills.
“Not everybody thinks or feels or moves in the same way,” she said, noting that building relationships and partnerships across all departments and demographics on campus is a primary goal of hers.
Engelken attended the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, where she earned her Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Multifaith Understanding and Engagement, according to an e-mail from the Division of Student Life.
Since college, Engelken has wanted to be a school pastor and has been interested in “how people make meaning in their life.”
“My passions are around education, spirituality and social justice,” she said.
She is currently pursuing ordination with the United Church of Christ.
The Chapel will be holding an open house during the first week of February.
