Longtime security guard James M. Miller was murdered Oct. 31 night during an attempted robbery at the 7-Eleven on the 4700 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
Miller, 54, of Oakland, was shot around 10:55 p.m. inside the store according to a Nov. 2 Oakland Tribune article. Miller apparently struggled with his assailant, but was unable to draw his own gun before being fatally wounded. Relatives said he had worked at the 7-Eleven store for over 15 years.
Three suspects have been taken into custody according to Oakland Police. They are Jermaine Brooks, 22, Anthony Brown, 19, and Derek Brown, 18, no relation. The charges pending against the men are murder, felony murder, and use of a firearm. Additionally, Brooks is being charged with intentional use of a firearm according to Oakland Police Sargent Derwin Longmire.
Oakland Police Officer George Phillips said that they could be facing capital punishment.
Anthony Brown and Derek Brown were taken into custody on Nov. 13 and Brooks was arrested on Nov. 14 according to Phillips. They are being held without bail.
