The Oakland Museum closed for the next eight months
The Oakland Museum at 1000 Oak Street will be closed for renovations until May 2010. This is the first closure of the museum’s 40-year history in the downtown East Bay area.
The renovations will include a redesign of the art and history galleries, and new common areas for visitors. Renovation architect, Mark Cavagnero, has headed two new galleries to be included in the museum.
Visitors should also expect a major redesign of the natural sciences gallery. Until then, visitors can go to the museum’s occasional public programs around the Oakland area with events posted at the website.

“Cash for Clunkers” deal comes to an end
The “cash for clunkers” program ended Monday Aug. 24 with customers rushing to benefit from deals by the Car Allowance Rebate System Program.
The program, which began on July 1, provided economic incentives with rebate offers of up to $4500 for car owners to trade in older, fuel-efficient vehicles. The initiative also sought to increase auto sales, while putting safe and cleaner cars on the roads.
Other car corporations, including Autonation Inc., decided to end rebates early instead on Aug 21 to process company sales and benefits quickly to the government.
