New Mills app makes information more accessible

The Mills IT department released a new app geared towards Mills students in partnership with a higher education software service, Ellucian Mobile, last week. The app hosts a range of options providing students with numerous tools, ranging from a marked campus map to a local weather report.

The new Mills app is free, unlike the app offered by Blackboard for an additional charge. While active grades are unavailable, grades from previous semesters are.

There are many categories within the Mills app such as Directories, Campus Life and Resources. Within these categories exist multiple subcategories such as the athletics page, the AC Transit mobile website and BART.

“I think it’s awesome,” Junior Larrolyn Patterson Parms-Ford said. “Now I can see when my classes are.”

The app also offers the Founders’ Dining Hall menu — something Parms-Ford said was accurate, whereas in the past the Bon Appetite menu postings have not always been.

Despite the potential usefulness of the app, some students said they are no more inclined to download it, though Junior Taelor Ramos thinks that it could be beneficial.

“It seems like they’re trying to promote stuff with what they feature like going off campus, which is something some students really need to do,” Ramos said.
