(6/22) — 14:05 PDT — LOS ANGELES — New footage from a bystander’s video camera that captured the New Year’s morning shooting of Oscar Grant by former BART Police Officer Johannes Mehserle will be released publicly along with the BART Police dispatch recordings from the morning of January 1, 2009, the Los Angeles County Superior Court announced Tuesday.
The new footage and police communication recordings have never before been seen or heard outside of a courtroom and were submitted as evidence in the criminal trial against Mehserle.
The six videos and dispatch recordings will be made public either Wednesday or Thursday, a court spokesperson said.
The decision to release the videos was made Tuesday morning by Judge Robert Perry after prosecutors rested their case in the second-degree murder trial against Mehserle Monday. On Tuesday, the defense began arguments.
