Native Americans raise profile

Factulty and staff have decided to reinstate November as Native American Heritage Month.

Melinda Micco, ethnic studies professor, was part of the force of faculty and staff which decided to reinstate the heritage celebrations. Micco, is involved in her Seminole culure not only personally but professionally.

“I really want the Mills community to know more of [our] presence and our culture,” she said.

Micco, also responded to student comments about the lack of Native American activities. According to Micco, one student said, “I came here because I saw your picture and thought, if there’s a native professor there, there must be some native students there.”

Previously, there were few Native American activities aside from the annual Pow Wow.
