The Texas Board of Education approved a new social studies curriculum for kindergarten to 12th grade on March 12 that, according to The New York Times,“will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks.”
Looking at their changes, I began to think of my own California public school education. I don’t remember the textbooks exactly, except for the phrase “dyed-in-the-wool Jeffersonians,” which still remains one of the best textbook phrases I have ever read. I do remember learning about the American Revolution, the ideas of the Founding Fathers and many other things the government has done since that time, good and bad.
What do you remember learning in kindergarten to 12th grade? Was there a conservative/liberal slant to what or how you learned?
