Whether you love telling meaningful stories, are passionate about learning and conveying information, curious about the world around you or would just like an outlet to showcase your web, design, writing, photography or drawing skills, we have room for you!
Check here to view open positions. No experience is required! Almost all positions are paid with biannual stipends, and all positions are eligible for academic independent study credit. (However, first-years cannot apply for independent study credit.)
Open positions
Assistant Editors for News, Arts & Entertainment, and Health & Wellness Sections (Writing experience preferred)
The duties of this position include assisting the Chief Editor of a section in editing articles submitted to the section while contributing one or more stories biweekly. Assistant Editors attend weekly staff meetings and Friday production sessions virtually. Stipend position.
News Editor (Writing experience preferred)
The duties of this position include editing articles submitted to the News section and contributing one or more stories biweekly about campus, local, global, or national news events relevant to the Mills community. The News Editor attends weekly staff meetings and Friday production sessions virtually. Stipend position.
Arts & Entertainment Editor (Writing experience preferred)
The duties of this position include editing articles submitted to the Arts & Entertainment section and contributing one or more stories biweekly about art events on campus, media reviews, celebrity coverage, or coverage of other artistic happenings relevant to the Mills community. The Arts & Entertainment Editor attends weekly staff meetings and Friday production sessions virtually. Stipend position.
Science & Technology Editor (Writing experience preferred)
The duties of this position include editing articles submitted to the Science & Technology section and contributing one or more stories biweekly about scientific and technological events on campus, in Oakland, or otherwise relevant to the Mills community. The Arts & Entertainment Editor attends weekly staff meetings and Friday production sessions virtually. Stipend position.
Copy Editor
Copy editors look over all articles on biweekly production days to ensure that they are in accordance with AP Style rules and regulations before publication. They are asked to virtually attend weekly pitch meetings if they are able to do so. Stipend position.
Staff Writer
The staff writer submits one story to any section biweekly. The writer will also attend weekly staff meetings virtually to pitch or get assigned a story. On production days, the staff writer should be online and available for the duration of editing their piece.
Columnist
A columnist must have a well-planned idea of the theme/subject matter of their column; the piece(s) must be submitted consistently (bi-weekly or monthly). The Campanil is especially interested in potential horoscope columnists!
Artist
Are you a cartoonist, comic strip creator, or illustrator? Consider contributing your work weekly or biweekly to be published on our website! See our comics page for previous submissions.
Contributor
A contributor may pitch one or more stories to write for the Campanil without the commitment of being on staff. The consistency of pitch submissions will be based on the contributor’s availability and lead editors’ approval of pitches for article status.
