At least two new minors are expected to make an appearance next school year, according to Mary Ann Wight, Executive Assistant to the Provost. Religious Studies and Urban Education have both been approved as minor concentrations.
The Religious Studies minor was approved by faculty vote in April of 2012. Cynthia Scheinberg, chair of the English department, and Judith Bishop, Associate Professor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS), are designing the program, Wight said.
According to a draft of the program, only one additional course will be designed for the 6-credit minor. The rest of the courses come from many existing departments including WGSS, philosophy, anthropology, art history and English, making it an interdisciplinary field.
Students in the minor will also be encouraged to cross register at UC Berkeley for a wider selection of classes.
According to Wright, the Minor in Urban Education was approved in Oct 2012, and is expected to be included in the 2013/2014 Catalogue.
