Cyclones represent Mills on 2009 Cal Pac teams

The California Pacific (Cal Pac) Conference has announced its 2009 teams, assembled from athletes in the sports organization National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Eight Mills College athletes have been recognized for their athletic commitments.

The Cal Pac is a “diverse division II league in the NAIA,” according to its website. Mills joined the conference in 1999.

The eight players representing Mills are made up of two soccer players, three volleyball players and three cross country runners.

First-year Chelsea Satterwhite was selected to the all-conference First Team for her leadership on the offensive side of the soccer field. She totaled eight goals and three assists for the Cyclones this season, earning the fourth best points per game average overall in the conference.

Senior Katja Davis was selected to the all-conference Second Team for her performance as a Cyclone midfielder. As co-captain of the team, she earned six goals and three assists.

Karen Sally Espinosa, also a senior, was selected to all-conference Second Team for her performance as Mills’ top outside hitter for the volleyball team. She totaled 139 kills and 515 total attacks this season and led Mills’ offense throughout the season.

Graduating senior Cristin Allen received Honorable Mention for her offensive and defensive support on the volleyball court. She totaled 408 attacks this season, in addition to 148 digs and 29 service receptions.

Senior Isidora Jimenez also received Honorable Mention for her key defensive role as the Cyclones’ libero on the volleyball team. She totaled 224 digs, averaging 4.1 digs per set, the second highest average in the conference.

Seniors Lupe Cazarez and Angie Sandoval, and junior Kim Chew placed on the Cross Country all-conference team. Mills was the women’s conference champion.
