Bush’s budget cut plans

President George W. Bush’s controversial budget cuts will affect higher education schools by cutting some students loans based on financial need, if Congress passes it.

Congress received Bush’s plan on Feb. 7 to scale back on 150 programs that relate to education, housing and the environment, to reduce the deficit to $390 billion for 2006.

The Mills Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search programs would lose at least $950,000 in federal funding with Bush’s plan, according to Romeo Garcia, Director of Trio programs at Mills College.
