Bon Appetit plans to reduce food waste at Mills College dining facilities in order to address its negative impacton the environment.
The production, transfer and decomposition of food waste-or municipal solid waste-produces greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane, which help cause global warming, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Division of Student Life recently launched a program focused on sharing personal stories through writing, poetry and performance.
Titled the "DSL Narrative Project: Telling Our Stories, Having Our Say at Mills College," the project will consist of focus groups, interviews, photo exhibits and storytelling.
The Mills College swim team has been awarded the first place Academic All-American honor from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for spring 2008. The requirement for the Academic All-American honor is a team grade point average of 3.
Mills community members heard from an indigenous activist panel that discussed struggles of local native peoples to reclaim land, culture and community that have been destroyed and suppressed by generations of genocide, land grabs and denial of protection under U.
On Oct. 21, Services for Students with Disabilities held its first event for students with non-apparent disabilities. The event was the premier of the film Speaking Our Truths: Surfacing the Stories of Non-Apparent Disabilities, which follows the lives of several people who have struggled to receive an education with a non-apparent disability.
On Wed. Oct. 15, about 70 members of the Mills community gathered in the Student Union to watch the last 2008 presidential debate between Senators Barack Obama and John McCain.
The crowd was decidedly pro-Obama. "I am hoping that Obama makes a really good impression in this last debate.
Students were without Cal Grants for the first half of the semester because of the California budget stalemate, which is over after nearly three months of deadlock. The
2008-2009 California State Budget ended up being 80 days overdue.
