ASMC recieves student reports

By Mari Matoba

Committee reports, which were aimed at updating the ASMC executive board, were the focus of this week’s student governent meeting.

Erin Mandeson, alumni student representative, attended the alumni-student relations meeting at which several issues were discussed.

The welcome barbecue left many organizers frustrated with the large number of uninvited attendees.

Also talked about was the December graduate reception, to be held Dec. 8, 2002 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. in the student union. The alumni association fears that the event will not have a good turnout, although they feel it is important, Mandeson said.

Also brought to the ASMC’s attention by Mandeson was the fact that information about alumni in particular fields can be obtained through the alumni association.

Naomi deTablan, ASMC treasurer, attended the public safety meeting, where she proposed an idea to increase security between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Her plan included stopping every entering person to check student ID’s or to log visitors’ activity at Mills.

Erika Rickard, ASMC academic board chair, will be attending the board of trustees policy meeting in late October. She will be raising the issues of faculty advising and access to the M-Center. The ASMC believes that the faculty advising, based on various reports, is proving itself inefficient in aiding students with choices on which classes to take. They also feel that the M-Center needs to work on consistency in getting information to students about check in and registration.
