As I sat at the table adorned with fancy utensils and flowers with 4 amazing Mills journalists. I could only think about how blessed I’ve been to be in a room full of excellence and be with a winning team.
The California College Media Awards, an award ceremony celebrating excellence amongst student journalists was interesting. I was happy to be in a room with the best universities on the west coast like UCLA, UCB, USC and more. But throughout Day 3, I learned that you need to be your best and live your dreams now! Don’t wait. That seemed to be a theme within sessions like Getting the Real story, What it takes to be a columnist,Getting the story from anybody and the secrets to building an online audience.
I learned valuable information from session that will make me a better journalist, blogger, columnist and media personality. I’m so excited about the many possibilites that the speakers talked about. I was so inspired to continue to get great stories from celebrities to the everyday person. Sometimes, I had to catch my thoughts as I listened to Chris Lesinski of TMZ.com talk about his journalism career and current job. Chris is just a few years older than me and he’s in “showbiz”.
But, I don’t believe in luck. I believe in faith, destiny and purpose. I believe that what God has for me is for me.
At the CCMAs, I clapped and cheered for UCLA as they dominated the award banquet. I was happy for them —not bitter or envious. I was encouraged by their triumphs.
In life, we all have a choice to either be our best or not. Or, even when we are growing into our best and see other people at their best. We can celebrate with them. Don’t hate on them. Even as I’m in Hollywood, I refuse to become a hater or a fake congradulator. I continue to celebrate those who are Hollywood’s Best!
