Emily Kaufmann turned in several outstanding performances at this past weekend’s Mills Invitational Swim Meet. Emily broke the school record in the 1000 yard freestyle by 6 seconds and was a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay which also broke the school record. Both outstanding swims are a testament to her hard work and dedication. Emily consistently does the “little things” which contribute to both her and the team’s success. Emily is a junior from Tracy, Calif.

Cross Country runner Tyliah Hoa ran a lifetime best at the NAIA Region II Championships in Fresno on Nov. 9. Tyliah’s daily work ethic, training consistency, and off season dedication paid off in the team’s final race of the season where Tyliah ran a lifetime best performance of 23:18 over the hilly and muddy 3.1 mile course. Her time is a one and a half minute improvement over last season’s best performance. Tyliah is a sophomore from Guerneville and is majoring in English.

Sophomore Maliheh Nakhai earns this week’s Cyclone of the Week award after playing an outstanding game against Bethany College in the soccer team’s last game of the season. Mali, one of the captains of the soccer team, scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the other goal, as the soccer team defeated Bethany 2-1. Maliheh has provided the soccer team with outstanding leadership throughout the season. She has set the tone for practices and games, pushing her teammates to maintain their intensity.

Sophomore Amy DeCoux played one of her strongest games of the season last Friday as Mills defeated CSU Maritime, 30-13,
30-19, 30-10. Amy recorded an amazing 58.3 kill percentage (a career high), notching
15 kills and only 1 error on the night. In addition, she had 8 digs, 6 serve aces and a 100 return percentage.
Amy has been a standout player throughout the entire season and leads the team in almost every category. As
one of the captains, she provides strong leadership both on and off the court.
Amy is a modern languages and liteteratures major from Fair Oaks, CA.

Cross country runner Sari deCosta had a strong performance at the 15th Mills Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 11. At last Friday’s race, Shari improved by an amazing 4 minutes and 32 seconds from last season’s performance on the same 5km course. Shari’s dramatic improvement is a reflection of her time management skills,
consistent work ethic, and daily dedication to improving herself both on and off the athletic field. Shari is a senior from Sri Lanka, double majoring in English and history.

Cross Country Junior Claire Abe finished first at the Pacific Union Pioneer Cross Country Invitational on Sunday, with a time of 23:07. Her top finish helped the Cyclones to a first place team finish. A junior psychology major from Seattle, WA, Claire has been the top finisher for the Cyclones in each meet so far this season.

Freshwoman Claudia Mercado helped the soccer team to their second and third wins this past week. She scored a goal against Simpson on Saturday, and added a goal and an assist in the team’s 3-2 win over Simpson last Tuesday. She has scored four goals so far this season while playing every minute of each game.

Megan Miller, sophomore from Yreka, CA, brings dynamic leadership to the Mills Volleyball team. Miller is the team’s setter and one of the captains. Miller led the team to their first victory two weeks ago against Cal Tech with 32 assists and an 89 percent serving ratio. In the Pomona Pitzer Tournament, Megan played and set for the team in every game of the four matches without a break.

Megan contributes with her optimistic attitude and persevering work ethic. Her inspirational play on both offense and defense always keeps the team going.
