Undergraduate tuition and fees, as well as meal plan costs, will increase for the 2009 – 10 academic year, but housing costs will stay the same.
Mills students received a letter from the College dated March 9, which explained that tuition rose 3 percent and will cost $35,196 without room and board or College fees.
The Campus Comprehensive Fee will cost $16 more, rising to $896.
This year, tuition was $34,170.
According to Phaedra Gauci, administrative assistant for Housing Management and Dining Services, Mills usually raises tuition by 5% to 7%, so this year’s increase is not as bad.
Last year, tuition rose by 5%, and in 2005, it increased by 9.9%, according to a March 2008 Campanil article.
The March 9 letter explained that campus housing costs will remain the same; however, living in the Courtyard Townhouses will cost $1,000 less than previous years.
“We want to give students a more affordable option,” Gauci said.
The cost of having a 9-month agreement with the Courtyard Townhouses this year is $9,272. Next year, it will cost $8,272.
The Townhouses will still keep the housing option’s current features like cable, according to Gauci.
She said that the College cannot reduce the other residence hall prices, but because the Townhouses are new, the College has more leeway to change things.
The price of meal plans and food on campus will increase by 4 percent next year because Bon Appetit is increasing the fees they charge Mills.
2009 – 10 meal plans will range from $4,774 to $5,450.
