Kicking off the athletic season, the soccer and volleyball teams
traveled to New York on Sept. 8 to face the competition and bond as
a team.
Going to New York with her team, Megan Miller,
a senior on the volleyball team, said, “Its Gave us a chance
to get to know each other on a deeper level, it made us stronger
team.”
The volleyball team took on the College of
Staten Island on Thursday and swept with a score of 3-0. Friday
Mills defeated SUNY Purchase 3-1 making them undefeated so far.
“There were points in each game that
brought out the bright parts on our team. This Year’s Team is
extremely strong. It’s an amazing group of people,”
said Miller.
The soccer team played SUNY Purchase on
Friday. Senior Abby Pauslon scored in the first 30 seconds.
The Mills team held their lead until the last five minutes in the
game when SUNY scored, forcing two overtime games where the final
score was called a tie.
Senior Monica Dorado said, “We played
our hearts out, sand we did the best we could.”
In Saturday’s game against Staten
Island, senior Jenn Leier scored two goals and sophomore Kate Mack
scored the third goal ends with a 3-1 win.
“That was probably the toughest
game…there was a lot of rough play, but we were able to pull
it together as a team. It was wonderful victory,” said
Dorado.
The soccer team was especially emotional after
the Staten win because it was their first victory in a year.
After struggling last year, not winning a signal game, the team is
off to a promising start this year.
Having both teams traveling together and
playing the same teams so that they could cheer each other on made
the experience even more enjoyable according to Nikki DaSilva, a
sophomore on the soccer team.
“Playing in an away fame is always hard
but it helps so much to have support from another team. They were
great,” said DaSilva.
“The volleyball team felt the same
support from the soccer team at their games as well,” Miller
said.
“It was always an amazing thing to
receive all the energy from another team that supports you in the
stands.”
