Programs for parents vary from campus to campus

Mills College is one of the few all-women’s undergraduate colleges in the country that caters to parenting students, though such students still face many obstacles on campus.

Out of 48 all-women’s undergraduate/co-ed graduate colleges, Mills is one of seven that offers on-campus housing for parenting students and their children, though parenting students say such housing is extremely expensive. It is the only one that has a designated parenting lounge, which was created by parenting students themselves.

NOTE: A graphic in the May 4, 2009 issue of The Campanil erroneously stated that Mills College offers child care. There is a private educational facility for children housed on campus, the Children’s School, though costs and the small number of spots open at any given time often make it a prohibitive option for Mills parenting students.
