Oakland Public Theater

“April 10, 1535” by Cheryldee Huddleston (winner, 2002 P.E.N.

Literary Award for Drama) a selection of the Theater Unplugged staged reading series. Scholarship shows a slightly naughtier edge when it focuses on one of the most forbidden words in the English language. “April 10, 1535” is a fantastical take on the studies of a solitary 16th Century monk who spends his days scanning ancient texts for the earliest derivation of a well-known Anglo-Saxon expletive. The resulting epiphany is unique, to say the least; philosophical, erotic, spiritual, and humorously transcendent. The play is directed by Jane Courant, and features Managing Director Elizabeth Carter, and Kevin Ottem-Fox.
