Mills’ soccer team lost to the Menlo Park Oaks last Saturday with a final score of 0-7.
Despite the score, many spectators and the team members said that the Cyclones played a good game. “The score wasn’t so great, but our team played really well,” said freshwoman Bashion Crandall.
“We played our best game today,” said Head Coach Colette Bowler. “We stepped up and played at their level.”
The Menlo Oaks are a tough team; they’re number one in Mills’ league, and many of the team members are on athletic scholarships.
“The opponents are fast,” said Janine Oubre, mother of Cyclone Miya Oubre, who observed from the sidelines during the game. About three dozen fans were in attendance, mostly parents of players.
Menlo scored three points in the first half and four in the second half. Goalie Nikki DaSilva fended off several shots. “Good game, goalkeeper!” said John Oubre, Miya’s father.
Players and fans were pleased, despite the loss. “We kept a positive attitude,” Crandall said.
Even Menlo parents noted that the Cyclones had positive morale. “They still have good spirit,” said Jeff Moore, a Menlo parent.
“They haven’t won a lot of games,” said freshwoman Brianna Walters, a spectator at the game, “but they get better every time.”
Bowler agreed, “I was very impressed with our team today.”
