This year’s convocation speaker will touch on the theme of global connections among women.
Kavita N. Ramdas, president and chief executive officer of the Global Fund for Women, was chosen as this year’s speaker for her experience and insights.
Ramdas has been working for the Global Fund since 1996 and has received various distinguished awards on account of her philanthropic leadership activities.
She has also garnered attention nationally and internationally for her work surrounding issues of poverty and economic development. According to president Holmgren, Ramdas has spoken previously at Mills with great success.
“Audiences were not only interested but also appreciative [during her speech],” said President Holmgren.
Due to Mills’ commitment to the advancement of women, Ramdas was clearly qualified for this year’s speech.
Holmgren believes that Ramdas can step up to the challenge and deliver a speech that is both powerful and inspiring.
Linda Norhtcott, head of the Mills master calendar and organizational committee said, “They made an excellent choice in the speaker this year. Her work is of worldwide importance and the president is trying to bring all of that to a campus which is devoted to educating women.”
According to Robin Isenberg, secretary to the board of Trustees, “This is a time of deep interest in world events for our nation and a time of reflection on our educational mission at Mills.” Ramda’s speech will fall into place by further propounding the theme of global connections among women which surrounds Mill’s 150th anniversary.
