Cyclones suffer defeat

Thursday’s soccer game against University of Hawaii Hilo resulted in a 4-0 loss for the Mills Cyclones.

The first half of the game saw two Hawaii goals and a lackluster performance by Mills. Tumbles and missed kicks filled the time as the action bounced across the field.

One Hawaii fan shouted, “You suck!” to the team but was quickly admonished by a Mills fan.

“Whoa, we don’t say that here,” the Mills fan said. “Everyone’s a star.”

Corrected, the Hawaii fan resumed his comments, continuing with, “You suck in a good way!”

The second half saw game action focused on Mills’ side of the field, with brief forays into Hawaii territory. Despite three saves by Mills goalie Amanda Parker, Hawaii scored another two goals.

The Mills team is young, with over half the players in their first two years, compared to the Hawaii team, where players are on athletic scholarships.

Coach Colette Bowler told her team to “take these things individually” after the game. “Every game we’re stepping up and playing better,” she said.

Wednesday’s game against Bethany University was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts.
