City of Oakland truck crash causes 3 hour power outage

A power outage on Sunday, March 19 left parts of the Mills campus without electricity for approximately three and a half hours, but was restored by the City of Oakland. Unfortunately it was a City of Oakland truck that caused the outage. The truck's driver said that he was blinded by the midday sunlight as he was coming off the ramp from the 580 eastbound.

According to Public Safety Director Michael Lopez, the driver told police that he missed his turn onto MacArthur Boulevard and drove, instead, over the medial strip, jumped the curb and hit a power pole.

The pole was split in two and the truck came to rest in the fence behind the Alderwood Building. Lopez wrote in an e-mail that no one was injured.
