_› The Mills Van has gone in for repairs, Public Safety and SSD are working to get alternative transportation for scheduled trips and emergencies. Students who need handicap accessible vans should contact Public Safety to assist with arrangements.
_› To the mounting pressure of the campus-wide parking problems, an old parking lot was expanded and a new lot was built over winter break. Paul Richards, Director of Facilities, said 400 spaces were added in the last 15 years. There are also plans to add 40 new parking spaces to the lot by the front gate. Upon repeated attempts to contact the Department of Public Safety about the number of permits issued versus available spaces, Public Safety refused to comment.
_› California Senator Barbara Boxer has been slated to be the keynote speaker at this year's commencement. President Jan Holmgren said, "I'm thrilled, we've invited her many times and I am pleased she is coming. She is a strong activist for the values we cherish at Mills, like equal justice for women."
_› The College is holding a forum to discuss tuition and student fees. Guests will include Terra Schrer of Institutional Research, Liz Burwell, the Vice President of Finance and David Gin from the M Center. The forum is Thurs. Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Mary Atkins Glass Lounge.
_› Assistant professor of English Kathryn Reiss has published her thirteenth novel, a tale of suspense for teens titled Blackthorn Winter: A Murder Mystery (Harcourt Children's Books, 2006).
