Photo by Dominique SimpsonThe Mills Chapter of Choice USA held a Bring Your Own Wire Hanger party in the Student Union on Tuesday, April 4, 2006. About 20 students attended the event to attach red ribbons, bearing the names of women who had died from illegal abortions, to wire hangers. The hangers will be sent to South Dakota governor, Mike Rounds, in response to the legislation he signed last month that made nearly all abortions in his state illegal. A table was set up for each step in the ribbon attaching process; there was a table for cutting the ribbons, a table for writing names on the ribbons, and a table for attaching the ribbons with hot glue to the wire hangers.
