The Mills cross country team announced Monday that they won by default in last Saturday's meet against other CalPac colleges last Saturday.
The meet in Rocklin, Calif. on Sept. 17 included division 3 teams Holy Names and William Jessup Colleges, along with Division 1 teams that Mills was not ranked against. The fastest Mills woman placed 17th overall, but the college still took home a victory because the other colleges in their division did not have enough athletes present to be considered complete teams.
Sophomore Heidy Sanchez said, "[Head coach] Sharon Chiong is one of the main reasons that cross country is the way it is. She does a great job emphasizing that we are not competing with anyone, we are here for ourselves."
The team is positive about their upcoming meets. "This year's team is supportive, strong, and we run whole-heartedly," said Melody J. Ferris, a fourth year runner.
