The Cyclone tennis season is well underway, although Mother
Nature seems to be doing her part to cause delays. The first home
match of the season was postponed because of rain, but the Cyclones
whipped up their own storm when they faced Diablo Valley College
later on in the week.
That match, on Feb. 5 resulted in an 8-1 victory for Mills with
the only loss coming in a toughly contested singles match where
Mills senior Jennifer Allen fought into a third set, but couldn’t
hang on for the win.
In doubles action, Allen teamed up with Kassi Kappelos for the
first of three wins in two sets against D.V.C. Other Mills doubles
wins came courtesy of Rebecca Levy and Molly Maguire, and Miya
Sheed and Ayako Oshima.
On Fri. Feb. 6, the Cyclones headed north to Santa Rosa Junior
College and made it to the third set in four of the matches before
rain cancelled the event.
Mills was scheduled to face Mission College on Feb. 10, but the
Mission team was forced to withdraw because they didn’t have enough
eligible players, according to Liz Terry of the Athletic
Department.
The Cyclones return to the home courts on Tues. Feb. 17 when
they take on Dominican College.
Matches begin at 2 p.m.
