A 3.8 earthquake 2 miles southeast from Pacifica, CA hit the Bay Area this afternoon at 2:57 p.m., according to the USGS website.
The shock has not yet been reviewed by a seismologist, but the preliminary information was distributed by USGS computers analyzing the fault lines in the Bay Area.
Though the quake was felt in Oakland, CA, it lasted no longer than 1-2 seconds.
